Koh Tao or Turtle Island is well-known as a paradise of Thailand, situated near Koh Samui in Suraj Thani province. Its shape looks like a peanut. It is also famous as a heaven for scuba diving and snorkeling.
Koh Tao is bordered by a lot of coconut palm. The most popular place is Sairee which is situated on the West coast. The beach is very beautiful with white sand and a few huge granite boulders which are very magnificent.
You can spend your lazy days on the sandy beaches or go for a snorkel to see amazing corals with plenty of colorful fish; i.e. marlin, baracuda, snapper, sailfish, etc. You will also see abundant sea turtles; i.e. Hawkbill turtles or Green turtles, swimming in the surrounding water.
Besides, since Koh Tao is 70% mountainous, you will enjoy hiking or rock climbing in the rainforest covered slopes and be impressed with very fantastic views for the sunset over the island.
Recommended time to travel to Koh Tao is from December to March and July to August.
