There are beautiful coral reefs around Koh Lipe and the sea is very crystal clear and a lot of exotic marine wildlife. The sand is very white and clean. Therefore, because of its beauty and it's very wonderful island, Koh Lipe is well-known as "Maldives of Thailand".

The island name, "Lipe", may seem strange to you. The name, in fact, came from the local Chao Ley language means "Paper Island". Apart from the strange name, the shape of the island itself is also very strange; it is similar to the shape of "Boomerang".

Pattaya Beach

Although it is a small province, it is very amazing place. You will feel fresh air while you stay among beautiful nature. You will wake up in the early morning and find the beautiful moon and a lot of exquisite stars. You can take tons of photos of the moon with the rice field view as a wonderful background. Then after the amazing scenery with the moon, you will find the bright sun gradually rise and it will be another great scenery indeed.

One of the amazing merit festival in Thailand is "Tak Bat Thewo". The festival is held at the end of the Buddhist Rains Retreat every year. (the eleventh lunar month - October) It is held at Wat Sangkat Rattanakhiri, Uthai Thani, in the lower north of Thailand. (only 219 kgs. from Bangkok)

It is very famous and amazing to see a long line of monks (approx. 500 monks) descend from the hill top step by step down the stairs as if going from heaven. And people from all over Thailand make a merit with special food, drinks, and beautiful flowers to those monks. It is very beautiful picture. Prasat Hin Phanom Rung is situated on the top of the mountain. It was built from sandstone and it is another great sample of beautiful architecture which was influenced from Khmer. The door frames and walls were carved neatly and beautifully as well.

It is so amazing that you can see sunlight exactly through 15 doorways of Prasat Hin Phanom Rung. This event normally occurs 4 times a year :

1) approx. 5 - 7 March : sunset through 15 doorways

Prasat Hin Phimai is situated in Nakhon Ratchasima province in the Northeastern Part of Thailand. If you are the one who love to visit ancient places, I would recommend Prasat Hin Phimai which is, in my opinion, one of the amazing historical parks of Thailand. Especially if you have visited Angkor Wat in the Kingdom of Cambodia, you should not miss Prasat Hin Phimai as it has an ancient Khmer architecture which is similar to Angkor Wat.

Prasat Hin Phimai is the largest sandstone sanctuary in Thailand and it is so fascinating. The amazing thing that I like most is the giant lion which was built from sandstone. It reminds me to Sphinx in Egypt. The principal Tower is also very beautiful with the elegant gates or doorways. There are many amazing and magnificent stone carving that you can take a lot of photos.

All the above mentions make Prasat Hin Phimai one of the amazing historical parks of Thailand and it is such a lovely place to visit indeed!

Bang Pa-In Palace is situated in Ayutthaya province. (approx. 61 kgs. north of Bangkok) It is one of the most beautiful palaces of Thailand. There are several buildings with various architectural styles which are very fascinating. (Greek, Chinese architectural styles, etc.) While you walk through the gate, you may feel like you are going into the heaven.

The area is very large with beautiful park and the buildings are surrounded by lake. You can take tons of photos all over the area. Among those beautiful buildings, there are only two building that you can go inside; Phra Thinang Withun Thatsana (where you can see a beautiful view of surrounding countryside) and Phra Thinang Wehat Chamrum which is a Chinese-style building. (the building is built from the material from China)

I think the most beautiful building is Phra Thinang Aisawan Thippa which is a pavilion standing in the middle of the lake. This Thai architectural style is very amazing!

Even though the area is very large, I prefer to walk and take a lot of photos with every buildings which are all really beautiful. It is a very worth visiting and you will not feel tired, I can guarantee. But if you don't want to walk, there are golf buggies available for rent. Or if you travel with your little baby, that will be very convenient for you and your family as well.

Please come and see the Bang Pa-In Palace by yourself and you will agree with me that it is one of the most beautiful palaces of Thailand which you cannot see anywhere else.

If you love fighting, Muay Thai is recommended for you to see while you visit Thailand. Muay Thai or Thai Boxing is one of the most famous sport of Thailand. It is well-known all over the world as there are various types of blows such as forward and backward elbow strikes, knee strike, swing and reversing kicks, foot jabbing, etc, which are very amazing. Especially in the old days, those blows were in beautiful manners.

Muay Thai is considered to be as the art of self-defense like other martial arts. (hand-to-hand fighting) I can say that everyone, no matter he is a man or a woman, a boy or a girl at any age (the youngest one whom I have ever seen is 7 years old) can learn and practice Muay Thai, even you!

By the way, the most significant thing that makes Muay Thai differ from Western Boxing is "Wai Kru" which most foreigners love to see. It is the one that you have never seen anywhere else before! "Wai Kru" is the way that Thai boxers pay homage to their teachers. They do this at the beginning of each fight. When the Thai traditional music starts, the two boxers go up to the stage and present the Four-Faced Prome dance which signified four virtues; compassion, temperance, prudence and justice.

Besides, another remarkable thing is that every Thai boxers wear ceremonial headband which can be obviously seen. This may represent their auspiciousness. Their teachers themselves remove the headband from the boxers when the "Wai Kru" finish. And then their teachers give prefight instruction to the boxers before the boxers go into fighting. Actually, Thai boxers fight 3 minute rounds alternated by 2-minute rest period.

A warm welcome to Doi Inthanon! It remarks as the highest mountain in Thailand. (2,565 meters above sea level) Doi Inthanon was declared as Thailand's National Park and it is well-known as a popular destination of Thailand. It is situated in Chieng Mai, in the Northern Part of Thailand. In my opinion, it is a good place to see excellent views and wonderful natural beauty. There are fantastic views of the surrounding mountains from the top. And you can take photos with the huge sigh stating "The highest spot in Thailand" when you are at the top of the mountain.

It is actually rather cool throughout the year. Last time that I visited Doi Inthanon was in January which is the coldest month of the year. I was really happy to visit there as the weather was very fine for me.

Apart from the weather, there are a lot of majestic and magnificent waterfalls that you can pay a visit and take some relaxation. Among those waterfalls are :

1) Mae Klang Waterfall

It is the first waterfall that you can see on the road to Doi Inthanon as it is located at the foot of the mountain. It is the largest waterfall which is very beautiful and impressive.

2) Mae Ya Waterfall

It is considered to be the highest waterfall in Thailand. Many travelers love to take tons of photos due to the beautiful widening series of steps. (drop 100 meters in cascade form)

3) Vachiratharn Waterfall

It is halfway up to Doi Inthanon so it is a good break to visit there for some relaxation. It is a nice waterfall for you and your family. It is very beautiful. It is very amazing that you can get wet when you go closer to the waterfall as the water runs fast from the top.

There are many Buddha images lining in the courtyard. You are invited to visit this temple in the morning when the Buddhist monks are chanting inside the chapel.

By the way, when you plan to visit Thai temples which are, as you know, considered to be a sacred places in Thailand, you have to dress appropriately and respectfully. (It covers an area within Phetchabun and Chaiyaphum province, in the northeast of Thailand) You will be impressed by the beautiful and fascinating landscape and the air is really fresh. The weather is very pleasant; i.e. the temperature's average is 25C in the day time throughout the year. It is rather cool during the night time and early morning. And it will be really cold at night in winter season. (during December - January) Besides, you will enjoy the feeling of the tranquility Day and Night as well.

Khao Yai is a great place that you can enjoy the beauty of nature. It has been declared as Thailand's first National Park in 1962 and it is listed as a UNESCO WorldHeritage Site. It is also the second largest National Park of Thailand. Its area is covering four provinces; Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Saraburi and Nakhon Ratchasima. It's not far away from Bangkok, only two hours but it sounds like you live a million miles away from Bangkok.

Khao Yai can be a dream holiday destination for the ones who really love nature. It is exactly what I have in mind and I have some dream about it as well. There are diversity of nature in this tropical forest. There are abundance of wildlife, tigers, leopards, elephants, deers, bears, etc. You can find approx. 300 bird species and a lot of colorful butterflies. Besides, you will be surrounded by nature; there are various kinds of plants, mountains, forest, streams and waterfalls. (the famous waterfall is Heaw Suwat Waterfall)

Moreover, there are a lot of outdoor activities that you can do during your dream holiday there; i.e. camping, trekking, wildlife watching, bird watching, etc.

Had Mae Rampeung

Had Mae Rampeung or Mae Rampeung Beach is situated in Rayong Province, in the East Part of Thailand. It is only 2 hours away from Bangkok.

I can say that only a few international tourists know about this beach as there is no night entertainment like bars, etc. , but for the ones who like to stay peacefully, Had Mae Rampeung is quite a perfect place for relaxation and swimming.

Once you reach Had Mae Rampeung, you will see the beautiful coastlines (approx. 12 kgs.) with white sandy beach. The beach is very quiet and the sea is rather smooth.

You can sit back and reading some of your favorite books on the beach throughout the day. Or you may enjoy seeing your kids playing together in the sea or on the beach with some sports.

Besides, there are a lot of seafood selling along the beach. They are good and not much expensive. Above of all, they are all very delicious.

It is such a nice place where you can spend your holiday with tranquil environment. Every moment at Srinakarin Dam is surrounded by cool water and pure air. You can also spend every minute happily exploring the finer points of doing absolutely nothing. Let the peaceful moment capture you. You will certainly love the way it is.

It's time to celebrate Songkran Festival or Water Festival in Thailand. In the old days, Thai people celebrate Songkran as the Traditional Thai New Year's Day which is from 13 to 15 April. During these days, some people go to Wat or temples to pray and give food to monks. Some Thai people gently pour water mixed with a Thai fragrance over the Buddha images as to bring good luck for their lives in the coming New Year. Besides, some Thai people believe that water is the symbol of washing all of the bad luck away.

Moreover, it's time for most Thai people to visit their home towns where every members in the families gather together. Young Thai people pour water into the elders' and parents' hands as to express their respects and ask for the elders' or parents' blessing in return as well.

Nowadays, since April is the hottest month in Thailand, most Thai people, esp. younger people, gather together on the main streets with some tanks of water or water guns and the water fights begin with a lot of fun accordingly. This could also release some heat as well.

Thale Noi, Thailand

Thale Noi is located in Phatthalung, a small province in the Southern part of Thailand. It is well-known as "the biggest Waterbird Reserve" and ""one of the largest lakes in Thailand" as well. Thale Noi is Thai name means "small sea/ocean" in English. It is so shallow that you can stand in some area and the water is very clear so you can see some fishes.

A lot of beautiful lotus and various waterplants are covered all over the area and will be surrounded you when you are there. There are various types and colours of lotus; i.e. pink, purple, white water lillies lotus, etc. They look like floating garden indeed.

For bird watching, you will find no difficulties to see waterbirds as plenty of them will be constantly moving while you get closer. Among those waterbirds are small ducks, great egrets, storks, etc. In the meantime, you may use binocular to further explore those waterbirds accordingly.

For your information, the recommended period to visit Thale Noi is October to May as there are a lot of waterbirds during that period. Those waterbirds stop at Thale Noi during their annual migration to the north to Siberia or China or to the south to Sumartra or Ausrralia.

I can say that Thale Noi is very wonderful and has tranquil scenery / environment as well. When you come there, you will certainly feel instantly relaxed. If you love nature and are a bird watching, I would recommend you to include Thale Noi in your next trip to Thailand.

Phu Hin Rong Kla, Thailand Travel Destination

Phu Hin Rong Kla is the National Park of Thailand. This is one of the most attractive places and travel destinations of Thailand. It is situated in three provinces; Phisanulok, Loei and Phetchabun which are in the lower Northern part of Thailand. (only approx. 346 kgs. from Bangkok)

In the old days, it was an important battlefield between the Thai military and the Communist forces. (1967 - 1982) They fought seriously several times during that period. Phu Hin Rong Kla was indeed the perfect base for the Communist forces since it is in the remote area and it is very close to mountains; the Communist forces could hide and reside among the densely forested hill which is difficult for the Thai military to find. By the way, the Thai military could finally defeat the Communist forces in 1982. It was partly because the Thai Government at that time granted amnesty to all students who had joined the Communist forces.

Nowadays, the Communist headquarter office bases are ones of the most tourist attractions and travel destination of Thailand; you can find a peaceful environment there. Once you arrive at Phu Hin Rong Kla, you can feel like you are in a million miles away. In the meantime, you may wonder how the Communist forces can survive in such an environment. But, when visiting their amazing places where necessary facilities were set up; i.e. the state power office, political and military school, water turbine, the raid shelter, etc, you may be understand and can imagine about the way of their living.

Apart from this area, Phu Hin Rong Kla also provides beautiful nature; i.e. awesome waterfalls and unusual nature like a large marvelous stone platform or rocky grounds which have strangely shaped; you can find jagged rock formations spreading over a wide area called Lan Hin Phum, which is a popular place where you can see beautiful sunset as well. Besides, there are also long deep cracks in some places (Lan Hin Teak). These may be caused by earthquakes. Walking along those rocks is very much exciting esp. when you look into the depth of the broken rocks. By the way, you can jump across some broken rocks which are narrow. Moreover, you can climb high to Pha Chu Thong Cliff where the Communist forces raise a red flag whenever they won the Thai Military. Furthermore, there are many kinds of plants growing in the broken rocks; i.e. mosses, fern or ground orchids which are very beautiful. The weather at Phu Hin Rong Kla like the weather at Phu Kradung which is cool through out the year.

Anyway, for the forest hiking trails, I would recommend you to hire a guide as it is very vast area and you may get lost accordingly. In the meantime, you may stay overnight there as tents and accommodations are available.

Phang Nga, Your Travel Destination

Thailand has fascinated travellers for many years. There are a lot of places in Thailand that are very wonderful. Phang Nga is among those places where you can find warm and relaxing days. It is a place where hundred of incredibly shaped limestone cliff rise straight from the blue sea, providing a beautiful scenic attraction. Most travellers want to explore the underwater world with a scuba outfit or with just a snorkel as there are various kinds of marine life. Those marine life preserve for watching, not catching. White sand beaches, stunning beaches, simply heaps of soft sand, clear blue water, the huge boulders, colorful corals, sponges would much attract most travellers around the word. Your first sight of Similan will be truly breathtaking. By the way, for your information, the island is closed from 15th May to 1st November each year due to the weather condition.

Koh Mak is an enchanting island; it features beautiful sandy beaches and surrounded by crystal water; i.e. swimming in the sea as clear as glass. The islands are uninhabited and the only source of accommodation are tents.

October to May is the best period for trekking when a lot of maple trees transform to red which are very wonderful. Besides, there are a lot of wild animals (including approx. 100 wild elephants and various kinds of birds) in the mixed forest of tropical and colder mate forest; i.e. dry evergreen, hill evergreen forest and the most attractive ones are the pine forests. savannah on the plains and stone terraces and grassy fields.

Mae Hong Son, Thailand, is my dream destination since I was young as it has great and beautiful scenery covered with the mist throughout the year. It is quite a quiet town, situated in the north of Thailand, not far away from Chiengmai. (only 120 kgs.) It is in the deep valley surrounded with high mountain and it borders mostly Myanmar. The two rivers of Salween and Moei, which are natural boundaries between Thailand and Myanmar, much attract me or other visitors to come to Mae Hong Son.

Besides, Mae Hong Son, has a lot of mountain ranges with virgin forest which will fascinate most visitors. Among those mountains are the West Thanon Thongchai Mountains which serve as the natural boundary between Thailand and Myanmar. Hill-tribes would be also attracted by visitors. There are many hill-tribes in Mae Hong Son such as Shan or Thai Yai people (who are the largest group in Mae Hong Son. They bring Burmese influence as you can see from temples, architecture or festival), Karen, Lisu, Yao, Hmong. They all have fascinating cultures.

If you are the one who love nature like me, Mae Hong Son is the place that you must not miss. You can go trekking and hiking in the hills, ride elephant, visit to hill tribe villages; the popular Pradongs Karen with long-necked women are living there. Someone called them "Giraffe necked women". They stretch their necks with bass coils to frighten away the togas in the old days. But, nowadays the rings serve as their status; the more rings they wear, the wealthier they are. They are so nice and friendly.

My most favorite activity is sailing on a raft or boat along the Mae Hong Son river which is very wonderful. The scenery along the banks is still fresh and unspoiled with green forest and mountains. (The best time for rafting is from October to March)

Another scenery that I like to see is the "Sunflower field" where you can see wild sunflower grow all over the mountain. This will occur starting November till December every year. It is very beautiful and attractive. Sunflowers Festival is held in Khun Yuan by end of November each year.

Although Mea Hong Son is just a small town, it is a great place to visit and there are much to see indeed. That is why Mae Hong Son is my dream destination.

Thai people take their food very seriously, so if you see Thai people eating happily in a restaurant it's a good bet. The menus vary, but include noodles, soups, rice, chicken and seafood dishes. Soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the wonderful smell of cooking is something you won't forget in a hurry.

In Bangkok, there are also low-cost eating facilities in places like TOPS supermarket in Central Plaza. You can choose your dishes from the selection available and seating is provided. Not the most intimate dining experience, but you notice that everyone sitting near you (you will often be the only Westerner) looks amazingly happy!

Eating in Thailand is a great pleasure. Try different dishes, experiment, but watch out for the really spicy dishes!

Reason 3 : Islands and beaches

Thailand has many famous islands with stunning beaches. There are whole books devoted to Thailand's wonderful islands and beaches. A lot has been written and said about this aspect of Thailand.

Post-tsunami (2004) things have been a little more circumspect. However, there's no doubt that Thailand has some of the best beaches in SE Asia, if not the world.

Scuba diving is also excellent and well-catered for, mostly through PADI centres. Snorkelling trips are widely available and typically organised through the hotel or a local agent. You can of course just get your flippers and mask on and start swimming. The organised trips are often worth it as you will be able to access remote reefs and islands where there is a wider variety of marine life.

Many other water activities are also available - kayak, jet ski and of course banana boat! Thailand is a very big draw if you are a lover of water sports.

There is also the rather pleasant nature of beach life - even if you can only make it out to the islands on the weekend. There is something extremely satisfying about sitting at a small beach-side restaurant in the cooler evening, sipping ice cold Singha beer and shooting the breeze with good friends. Some of my favourite beaches are Kata Beach (Phuket), Ao Prao Resort (Samet), Klong Dao Beach (Lanta).

Kata Beach is very typical of the better beaches in Thailand. The sand is soft and white; the sea, blue and clear. The beach is a distinctive crescent moon shape with little Pu island not far offshore. Pu saved Kata from major devastation in the Boxing Day Tsunami (2004) - it split the wave into two directions, lessening its force and minimising damage to the Kata Beach Resort.

The beaches and islands of Thailand are world-class. Whether your inclination is towards active water-sports, or simply beach-combing and lounging in the sun, Thailand has a lot to offer.

Reason 4 : The people

There is much that can be said about the Thai people, their happy, positive attitude to life and their friendly nature. On the whole, most Thai people are extremely tolerant and welcoming to foreigners. Thais tend to be very laid back and easy-going, unless offended, at which point they can become stubborn and in extreme cases verbally or physically violent. It is best to avoid confrontation in Thailand; just keep smiling, be calm and everything will be OK! There is nothing more embarrassing than the sight of a Westerner who "loses it", while the Thais remain calm and quiet.

Much has been written on the subject of Thai women and their many charms. For the majority of Western men moving to (or visiting) Thailand, enjoying the company of Thai ladies is a major incentive. Thai women tend to be charming, beautiful, slim and feminine.

Problems can arise with Thai women; usually this comes about because the Western guy has not taken time to understand Thai culture and the Thai way of thinking. This does often lead to unfortunate situations. Mostly these can be avoided. Being better informed does help and there is certainly no shortage of advice on the Web.

To have good relationships with Thai people it's important to understand their beliefs, aspirations and way of life. Thai people can find Westerners very puzzling, but the reverse is also true. Getting to know Thais can teach you a lot about yourself.

Generally, the Thai people you are likely to meet will be very helpful and pleasant.

Reason 5 : The cost of living

Compared to the West, Thailand has a very low cost of living. For example a fantastic condo with swimming pool, 24 hour security, broadband Internet and all amenities can be had in a nice area for rent of around £300 per month. However, all budgets are catered for in Bangkok. You can pay a lot more or much less than this.

One useful tip is, if you can, get a Thai contact to check out apartments for you prior to your arrival. They can also negotiate much more effectively. There are many bargains to be had and no shortage of accommodation in Bangkok. There is a two-tier system of pricing in Thailand - as soon as a foreigner appears the price automatically goes up! It's always worth trying to negotiate though.

As mentioned earlier food is also very cheap and generally a wide range of products are much cheaper in Thailand than in Western countries. The UK in particular seems to be the rip-off capital of Europe. I usually buy my running shoes and sports clothes when visiting Thailand or Malaysia as prices are often as little as 30% of what I'd pay for the same thing in the UK. Other clothes such as T-shirts, jeans, sandals, shoes, wet suits and so on can all be had at a fraction of what you'd pay in Thailand. Be careful of fake goods though; these are widespread in places like Bangkok.

For Americans, the decline in the Dollar has meant that Thailand is not quite the cheap and cheerful paradise it once was, and the flight can be very expensive from the USA. However, the Pound and the Euro, while they have declined a little against the ever-strengthening Baht, have not hot quite so badly. Flights are still very reasonable, especially if you can avoid the school holidays.

The glory days of the 70+ Baht Pound are probably over for good, as Thailand's economy slowly develops. At time of writing you are likely to get around 60 Baht or so for your Pound. However, even at those rates Thailand is still relatively cheap, and with some care many bargains can still be obtained, especially outside of Bangkok.

Reason 6 : The night-life

Sadly, Thailand has developed a unenviable reputation internationally due to its infamous "naughty night-life" scene.

The most famous red-light areas catering to Westerners include Patpong, Soi Cowboy and Nana Entertainment Plaza (NEP) in Bangkok. There are also naughty night-life centres in Pattaya, and on the island of Phuket, around Patong beach in Phuket town. It is not so well known that there is also a considerably larger sex industry catering to the needs of Thais.

The naughty night-life industry in Thailand has seen something of a recession in recent years. Increasing pressure from the government has resulted in "no show" enforcement, early closing, police raids, and on-the-spot drug testing of both workers and customers. Increasing prices and exchange fluctuations also haven't helped. This is all to the good in my opinion as, quite frankly, Thailand has more than enough to offer without this degrading industry. Hopefully, as this seedier side of Thailand declines, people will become more aware of the real Thailand.

The good news is that Thailand, and especially Bangkok, does have a very varied and lively "non-naughty" night-life. There are great discos, jazz clubs, cinemas, bowling alleys, restaurants, pubs, hotel bars, sports bars and shopping centres.

One of the best things is nothing seems ever to close in the "City of Angels". Even shopping centres are open until at least 10pm. This is a huge contrast to the UK, where most High Streets are closed up by 5.30pm.

Bangkok is certainly one place where you will never be bored in the evening and the same goes for many of the outlying provinces and islands.

Reason 7 : The pace of life

With our increasingly hectic lifestyles in the West we often dream of leaving the rat-race and downsizing into a slower pace of life. Thailand is an ideal destination for down-shifting.

With the combination of low cost of living and excellent facilities, life can be good in Thailand, some would say better than the West, on very much less money.

Whether you are just thinking of moving to the slow lane, taking early retirement, or just having a complete change of scene, Thailand has much to offer.

These days in the West people are becoming disillusioned with the pursuit of material possessions, there is a greater sense of urgency to find a better quality of life - before we are too old to enjoy it.

To quote Henry David Thoreau: "This spending of the best part of one's life earning money in order to enjoy a questionable liberty during the least valuable part of it reminds me of the Englishman who went to India to make a fortune first, in order that he might return to England and live the life of a poet. He should have gone up (to his) garret at once."

Whether your inclination is to the metropolis of Bangkok or the quieter outlying provinces or islands, the pace of life and laid back attitude of the Thais can be a refreshing change from the stress of life in the West.

Sure, Thailand is no panacea, but there's no doubt that there are many Westerners living a quietly-contented, low-stress life in the Land Of Smiles.

Reason 8 : The culture

There is so much to see in Thailand. There is always something more to learn about Thai history, the Thai people, their religion and beliefs. There are many wonderful temples and historic sites.

Thai culture is fascinating and there are numerous cultural avenues to pursue in Thailand - Thai dancing, arts and crafts, martial arts, festivals and special customs are varied and interesting. From Songkhran to Loy Kratong, from Thai silk to Muay Thai, from Ayutthaya to Wat Arun, there is much to explore and learn about.

There are a huge number of cultural activities that can be accessed from Bangkok. There are interesting locations further afield, such as the bridge over the river Kwai and the Northern towns of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, where the more adventurous can take trips to see the Hill Tribes.

Reason 9 : The facilities

Generally, leisure facilities are on a par or better Thailand than in the West. In particular, golf courses, cinemas, swimming pools, beach facilities, hotels, restaurants, serviced apartments, and shops are mostly excellent.

Medical facilities are also clean and efficient. There are a number of very well equipped hospitals in Bangkok, but also in outlying towns such as Pattaya. These primarily cater to rich Thais and Westerners.

Getting around is also rather easy. There is always a taxi of some description on hand for short trips. You can also take a tuk-tuk, songthaew, sky train, motor bike taxi, water bus, or air-con bus. You can also walk - but that's not recommended in April when Bangkok is 40C plus! Bangkok even has its own underground train these days! In many ways getting around in Thailand on public transport is far easier than in the West, where you really do need your own car to conveniently get around.

Bangkok does occasionally get grid-locked, especially during rush hour, but that is a fact of life in most cities these days. Just avoid taking a taxi during rush hour; get a motorbike taxi instead.

Reason 10 - The shopping

Bangkok is well known for its shopping. The big shopping malls include Central Plaza, Mahboonkrong also know as MBK and the new Siam Paragon, but there are many other shopping malls in Bangkok and more under construction.

Shopping facilities are plentiful outside of Bangkok too, with most towns having a variety of stores and shopping facilities. Tesco also have a number of outlets in Bangkok now under the brand name of "Tesco Lotus". Wandering through an Aladdin's Cave like MBK or sitting in a little coffee shop watching the world go by can be a pleasant way to spend a few hours.

Now add in the flight security restrictions you must take into consideration when you arrive at the airport and you're sure to lose your mind. But while it can be worrisome trying to get everything together, I can assure you, traveling doesn't have to be the end of the world if you do a little planning and follow these easy travel tips. Plan While Packing

This is probably the most important part of your trip - not simply because you might leave something behind that you will desperately need later. But also because when you get to the airport you will have to follow certain procedures that will leave you rustling through your items and trying to make last minute arrangements with little time to spare.

One of the cardinal travel tips (rules) of this day and age is that flight security will not let you take liquids past the security checkpoint. This not only includes beverages, but toothpaste, liquid deodorant, lotion, lip gloss, aerosols, and much more. Of course, many people are used to packing these items in their carry-on bag and don't even consider the fact that they're not allowed. But that reality will be realized when you're passing your items through the x-ray machine only to have a security officer take your bag, rifle through it, and confiscate your precious Country Apple Bath and Body Works lotion you just got for Christmas - and they're not giving it back!

To avoid this, it helps to learn their travel tips, which include packing larger bottles of liquids into the bag you're checking. The airport does allow a small, clear zipper-top bag with liquids smaller than three ounces in size (no aerosols) to come with you on the plane, so you must remember to pack these small travel liquids in your zip lock bag then pack all other liquids into the bag(s) you intend to check.

Another packing essential that many people don't think about is shoes. At every flight security checkpoint, you are required to take off your shoes. If you have shoes or boots that are difficult to remove in a speedy fashion you may slow up the flow of traffic moving through the checking point; security and the other anxious passengers will become very impatient with you - and you'll probably be impatient with yourself. To avoid this issue, it is best to wear easy to remove sneakers, and if you need to change your shoes after the checkpoint, just pack the pair you intend to wear in your carry-on bag; it will make the process much easier.

When You Arrive at the Airport

One of the best travel tips I can offer is, depending on the time of the year that you're traveling, you will want to make sure to arrive at the airport at least two hours before flight departure. This is because it is customary for airlines to begin their boarding process 30-40 minutes prior to departure time. So you really only have about 1 ½ hours to do the rest before boarding the flight - and there is a lot to do.

Depending on how you reserved your ticket, you may have to print your ticket at the check-in station, which now consists mainly of kiosks that guarantee you do most of the work. While the kiosks can be convenient to use, they do require that you know what you're doing before you start punching letters and numbers. That's why one of the travel tips I remember for myself is to keep my ticket record locator (normally a 13-digit number), my confirmation number, and my driver's license (or other state-issued ID) handy. After using either the ticket record locater or confirmation number to find and print your ticket, you will then have to check your bag(s) at the counter and show you're ID'ING Once that part of the process is finished and they've relieved you of your clumsy luggage, you are ready to go through the security checkpoint (gasp!).

The Security Checkpoint

The security checkpoint is actually not as bad as you think it might be. As stated previously, it does move fast, but if you know what to do, it will also move just as smoothly as any other part of the process. So another one of my travel tips is to remember that when you arrive at the security checkpoint, you will first need to present your ID and boarding pass, both of which should now be handy from when you checked your bags.

Once you pass this point, you will have to place your carry-on items on a belt that moves through an x-ray machine, while you simultaneously walk through a metal detector. Before you place your items on the belt, you will have to remove your shoes and your zip-lock bag with liquids, as well as any electronic device larger than your hand and place them in containers to move on the belt. Once you successfully pass through the security checkpoint and gather your items, you're set! The only thing you have left to do now is board the plane!

It's always a good idea to accumulate travel tips from a variety of sources when vacationing to ensure that when the time comes to actually take your trip you don't have to panic about what you may or may not be missing. Almost everyone loves to go to "a travel" or have a vacation once in a while. But sometimes we do forget that traveling needs preparation and we get caught up with a last minute travel preps. So I have enumerated some of the pointers that you can try in preparation for a great vacation.

• First, make sure that you have enough time to plan for the vacation you wanted.

• If you want to travel outside of your country, be sure that your passport is ready and not expired. Like some countries, they require a renewal of passport 3 months before it expires. Or sometimes you go on a trip, and you didn't check the expiration date of your passport and you didn't know that your passport is going to expire while you are outside of your country.

• Think of the place you wanted to go, and if you have decided where, then check the internet for tourist spots in that certain country. Research on the place so you wouldn't get lost and it would be easier for you to check out the cool places they have.

• Call up hotels in that country and make reservations, so you won't be sleeping on the streets when you get there and all the hotels are jammed with other tourists. Also, when you call them on an earlier time before the vacation, they may have a best vacation package that is cheaper than the one they offer during the peak season.

• Be sure to have the right number of reservations if you are traveling alone or with family or even with friends.

• Check if the country requires you to get a visa. If they do, then it is better get one as early as you can.

• Check for open flights. All your preparation will go to waste if you don't get to reserve a flight.

• Make a copy of all the documents you will be bringing just in case you lose your stuff such as your passport, driver's license, credit cards, airplane tickets, checks and other documents. Also leave a copy at home and have it faxed to you in case some problem occurs.

• Also, try to find out if the country requires departure tax.

• Try to get something that would fit you or your schedule. Don't get something that you don't want, and just got it because there is no other choice. This might end up in a disaster.

• Have foreign money ready. Make sure that you get to keep foreign money in your pocket; you will need this in traveling or going around. Of course, be sure that money is the right one to use on the certain country you are going to.

• Check for the cost of bus travel or any local transportation in that country. This can help you to travel easier and select which will be cheaper and more accessible.

• Make a list of things you will need for that trip. It would help you a lot while packing so you will not forget anything. We do make a list and then suddenly remember something that you need and was not on your list then jot it down.

• Let someone know that you will be traveling or having a vacation.

• Make sure to prepare your luggage the night before your departure and not rush on the same day of your departure. A habit of rushing makes us forget something that you might need in our trip.

• Also, check if you are bringing the right clothes for the certain country.

• Lastly, if you have an early flight, sleep in early and use you alarm clock.

ESTABLISH A MUTUAL PLAN – Allow every member in the family to have input on the type of holiday and/or activities they would like to experience. Reach consensus on what type of holiday you want to create. Brainstorm all the possible people to visit and the potential activities that would take place at each person’s home. Build a list of things you want to do, making sure that each family member has a personal priority included on the list. When everyone has a say, you build commitment and lower resistance towards the activities.

If a day is planned where waiting for the meal to be served or gifts to be opened is likely, some choices are to “BE” observant, friendly, patient, frustrated, curious, or talkative. Help one another make choices that enable the holiday celebration to be enjoyable for the entire family. Support one another in making a helpful “BE” choice and in BEING that choice.

Once your holiday celebration is over, come together as a family and discuss how it went. View pictures together and reflect on what each person remembers about that moment. Debrief and evaluate what worked well and what did not. Consider adjustments that would make the next family holiday smoother and more enjoyable. Begin to plan the next holiday, keeping in mind the highs and lows of the days that just passed.

The Sukhothai Historical Park is very large area and comprises the elegant ruins of Royal palaces, Buddhist temples, 4 city gates, walls moats, dams, water control system and much more. The ruins are very awesome and the grounds are magnificent. You can feel great Thai cultural and artistic significance. Sukhothai was known as a Kingdom of Happiness. So, images of Buddha sculptured during the Sukhothai era are cultural treasures which impart a feeling of peace and serenity. Some packages have cumbersome requirements or hidden fees. If you have any question at all about an offer, call or email the offering company and have them clarify. Be sure you get the name of the person you spoke to, and keep any correspondence you get from them.

5. What about the Food Costs and What are you going to do once you get there? Is the food included? If not what will that cost you per day per person? What amenities or activities are offered? Do they cost extra? Be sure you have enough money budgeted to cover all your vacation plans. If you are on a tight budget consider an all-inclusive package so you know everything else you spend really is up to you. Be sure of course to carefully check what all is and is not included in the all-inclusive package as not all travel packages or resorts are created equal.

6. Consider a Staycation. If you've gone through all the steps, and you're just not excited about a long trip anymore, why not consider a much closer destination. Pick a hotel an hour away instead of a half a day away. Or break away from the hotel box and choose a local resort. A local resort in the next town can feel exotic when you're away from home.

Marybeth* and her family always go out of town twice a year for vacation. It's been a tough year for all of them, and cumbersome travel plans are just not looking appealing right now.
